IMG_4956So this obviously isn’t food, but I’m really excited about it so I’m gonna post it here. Grød is Danish for porridge, and also happens to be the name of a local chain here in Copenhagen that only serves porridge. Last semester when I was living in a culinary house we had a lecture from the owner of Grød and he explained to us how he came up with the concept and what exactly a restaurant that only serves porridge is. Typically, we think of porridge as primarily a breakfast thing, just oatmeal, cream of wheat, maybe grits, etc. Grød actually serves a bunch of different types of grains like risotto rice, quinoa, spelt, barley, and of course the more traditional oatmeals.

I’m not crazy about oatmeal but I love love love risotto and it’s one of my favorite things to cook, and they have some amazing recipes. So I went ahead and bought the cookbook so I can have a little piece of Danish food at home with me. I will have to sacrifice licorice, herring, and Danish rye bread, somehow I think I’ll survive (if it’s not clear, I really dislike all of those things). My mom cooks a lot of oatmeal, so I figured she can use it too and maybe try some of the breakfast recipes.
